BienCuadrado is one of Barcelona’s youngest art galleries located in the heart of Barcelona’s Barrio Gotico. We have a philosophy of trying to present art that pushes boundaries rather than being governed by a set of stylistic principles or driven by commercial viability.
BienCuadrado has unexpected origins beginning in a call centre in Barcelona in 2010. Run by Aidan McGovern and Ashwan the space has emerged from a friendship that began over post-work beers and 5-a-side football became a platform to share ideas, ambitions and dreams.
Aidan McGovern is a Fine-Art Picture Framer, trained by the Fine Arts Guild of the UK and Ireland. Aidan has a degree in Geography and Politics from University College Cork and a Masters in Sociology from Goldsmiths, University of London. Alongside his work in Bien Cuadrado Aidan works in the Anthropology Department of the Universitat de Barcelona as a researcher and editor. He has a strong interest in visual anthropology, narrative story telling, and the spaces and places of modernity and post-modernity.
Richard Ashcroft is an abstract painter with a background in the worlds of Street Art and Fine Arts. Originally from Liverpool, UK. Ashwan is now living and working in Barcelona, Spain. Ashwan graduated with a Masters Degree from The School Of The Art Institute of Chicago in 1999. Describing his work as 'a visual tao of the boom bap sound', it is apparent where his influences lie. Having previously been represented by Pearl Lam's Contrasts Gallery in China, Ashwan is currently represented by 3 Punts Galeria, Barcelona
